Details

As the season progresses into late fall and early winter, we shift our focus to late season duck and goose hunting. This period typically runs from December 6 to January 11. During this time, the fields and waterways are teeming with migratory birds that are moving south for the winter. Our late season hunts take place in a variety of different environments. We hunt around Montezuma, the Finger Lakes, ducks on Lake Ontario waterways, and everything in between. Depending on weather conditions, we could be hunting ducks in a field or by boat. We use shore blinds, boats, and A-frames to adapt to different environments and ensure a successful hunt. Hunting in these areas offers a unique challenge and thrill, as the weather conditions can be more demanding. However, the payoff is worth it, with the opportunity to bag a variety of species. Our knowledgeable guides will help you navigate these conditions and set up in prime locations to maximize your success.

These hunts can be customized to chase specific species. Species targeted this time of year include puddle ducks such as mallards, black ducks, wigeon, gadwall, and pintail. Diver species targeted include canvasback, redhead, bluebill, and goldeneye. Sea ducks include oldsquaw and scoters. The colder weather and snow-covered landscapes create a stunning backdrop for your hunting adventure. Ducks this time of year are in full plumage, making them even more beautiful and rewarding to hunt. This is the best time of the year to harvest trophy birds that are perfect for the taxidermist! This is also a great time to experience the serene beauty of the winter countryside, making it a memorable experience for both seasoned hunters and newcomers alike.
